North Gauhati College is situated at North Guwahati, a place endowed with scenic natural beauty. The college campus spreads over a large area covering 33 bighas of land with two pisciculture tanks on either side of the main academic building. Away from the din and bustle of city environment, the college being located in a rural environment surrounded by lush green vegetation offers education in a pollution free homely atmosphere. The college, the alma-mater of a large section of people in the northern bank of the river Brahmaputra in the undivided Kamrup district, is one the few institutes’ of higher learning in the state that has completed 50 years of glorious existence. In the first ever phase of NAAC’s quality assessment and accreditation exercise of higher educational institutes in the country, North Gauhati College was accredited with ‘B’ grade and the institute is now in the run-up to its re-accreditation which is expected to take place very soon.

From the context of History : North Guwahati is on the northern bank of the river Brahmaputra just opposite the city of Guwahati. The place bears the testimony of becoming the garrison ground of great warriors of Indian history. The place also bears significance for being the native land of some of the great sons of the state like the erudite Sanskrit scholar Ananda Ram Baruah, Karmabeer Nabin Chandra Bordoloi, Bolinarayan Borah, Col. Shivram Borah, Lakshiram Baruah and many others. As the most recognized corridor in history and heritage down the track of civilization, North Guwahati happened to be the capital town of the ancient rulers of Kamrup and was within the four boundaries of the capital centre of Pragjyotishpur. The great general of Ahom era Lachit Barphukan defeated the Mughal invaders in the decisive battle of Saraighat here. The famous Ahom king Rudra Singha breathed his last on this sacred land. The place is also known as the temple town of Assam as some of the famous pilgrimage sites of the state such as Doulgobinda temple, Aauniati Satra, Dirgheswari Devalay, Aswaklanta Devalay, Rudreswar Devalay, Manikarneswar Devalay etc. are located here.
